Oman Air CEO Visits Key Destinations throughout the Airline’s Network
The Chief Executive Officer of Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, has undertaken a series of high profile visits to Delhi, Zurich and Kuala Lumpur. Paul Gregorowitsch, CEO, makes regular visits to key locations to meet with the airline’s key stakeholders from trade, media and government partners as well as Oman Air personnel, highlighting the importance of these regions to the airline and recognising their contribution to the growing success of the airline.
During his time in each region, Mr Gregorowitsch used the opportunity to meet with journalists from the respective countries and respond directly to press enquiries as well as being able to thank the media for their ongoing support first hand. Mr Gregorowitsch said: “I have wholeheartedly enjoyed visiting Delhi, Zurich and Kuala Lumpur which comes as part of my annual routine. These routes are of special significance to Oman Air and continue to prove extremely popular with our guests both in Oman and further afield. In a bid to reiterate Oman Air’s commitment towards its guests, Oman Air has added more offerings to its range. Notable among those is the increase of flights to Kuala Lumpur and the increased frequencies to certain key Indian destinations.”
Oman Air launched its first international service in India to Trivandrum in November 1993 and has since launched routes to 10 more destinations across India. Five of these routes are now served by double daily services. Within the last year, the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of India have agreed to increase the number of flights between the two countries through an open sky air service agreement. This resulted in Oman Air increasing its frequencies on a number of routes, with 21 weekly flights to Delhi, Calicut and Hyderabad and 14 weekly flights to Lucknow. Most recently, on the 1 August this year, the airline introduced a third daily flight from Mumbai to Muscat which increases the overall weekly frequency of flights to India from 154 to 161.
Since Oman Air launched its direct flight from Muscat to Kuala Lumpur, demand has grown among guests resulting in an increase in flight frequency and passenger numbers. The airline now operates 14 weekly flights – an increase from seven weekly flights on this time last year – to the Malaysian capital. Passenger numbers have also grown dramatically from almost 90,000 in 2015 to over 132,000 in 2016. Additionally, Oman Air entered a code-share partnership with Malaysia Airlines earlier this month, connecting their guests to an even wider range of destinations across Malaysia, China and Australia. Oman Air’s daily service from Muscat to Switzerland’s capital Zurich has also seen an increase in flight frequency due to demand, particularly from business class passengers. Following a codeshare agreement with German airline Lufthansa earlier this year, guests can now enjoy daily flights from Muscat to Geneva via Frankfurt - morning departure with Lufthansa from Geneva to Frankfurt connects to the daily Oman Air Dreamliner service to Muscat and an early morning departure from Muscat allows for a morning arrival in Geneva. Paul Gregorowitsch thanked the trade partners as well as the media in these markets:
“I would like to thank our trade partners, travel agencies and sales agents who have all been incredibly supportive and contributed to the growing demand on these routes. We look forward to building on our strong relationship with these nations for many more years to come and to boosting the economic and tourism prospects between our countries.”

The Emirates FA Cup sponsorship extended until 2021
Emirates and The Football Association announced today a three year contract extension to their successful existing partnership. The agreement will see the tournament continue to be named The Emirates FA Cup through until 2021. In 2015, Emirates became the title partner of the FA Cup, the world’s most prestigious domestic cup competition. The partnership between Emirates and the FA’s flagship competition has helped widen the reach to fans around the globe. Just ahead of the semi-finals in April of last year, the airline unveiled an exclusive Emirates FA Cup branded A380, with the logo of the iconic cup adorning both sides of the double-decked aircraft. The Emirates FA Cup branded aircraft has made its way to the extensive Emirates A380 network, allowing fans from around the world to connect with the competition in a unique way.
The airline also took the coveted Emirates FA Cup trophy on its first-ever trip to Africa with a stop at the airline’s Headquarters in Dubai in October 2016. The four day tour through Ghana and Kenya including visits to schools and training centres allowed thousands of football fans in Africa to get a little closer to the competition and gave them the opportunity to be photographed with the popular trophy. There are plans in place to extend the tour to take the Cup to even more cities on the Emirates network in the coming year. The 2017/18 Emirates FA Cup tournament began on Friday 4 August and saw 737 teams entering the competition and 185 extra-preliminary games taking place across the country. Last year’s competition involved more than 11,000 players from over 700 teams, playing in matches attended by over 1.8 million fans.
Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline said, "We remain incredibly proud to continue our role as the first ever title sponsor of such a prestigious and historic tournament. The spirit of this competition, bringing together both small clubs and Premier League giants alike to face each other before an audience of passionate fans is what drives us to continue our investment in this tournament. Through our support of the Cup, Emirates remains committed to the sport of football and its continued development. We look forward to the future of our partnership and helping to connect fans across the globe to one of the world’s most celebrated sports."Mark Bullingham, FA Group Commercial Director added, “We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Emirates through to 2021. Working alongside such a well-established and iconic global brand has helped us to make the competition more accessible to fans across the world. With the support of Emirates, last season’s competition reached over 912 million fans worldwide. The partnership will also allow us to continue our investment into the game at all levels. We look forward to continuing to work together to ensure the Emirates FA Cup remains the best loved and revered domestic cup competition in the world.”

SriLankan Airlines achieves superior level of on-time performance 2017
SriLankan Airlines has recorded a consistently superior on-time performance during the first six months of this year, in comparison with its peers. The latest statistics by the global flight data tracker Flightstats.com ranks Sri Lanka’s National Carrier as the 5th most punctual among 40 of the world’s leading airlines. Captain Suren Ratwatte, CEO of SriLankan Airlines, said: “We are delighted with the performance of every member of our team at SriLankan, who have raised the bar of professionalism to an extraordinary level in order to achieve such a consistent and long-term success. I feel certain that our passengers, who benefit most from this effort, would be absolutely delighted, as they know that they can count on SriLankan to be on-time, all the time.”
SriLankan’s flights were on-time 86.49% ahead of the time, far ahead of the average 78.33% achieved by the 40 airlines Flightstats monitors. These include many of the finest carriers in the Middle East, Europe, Far East, Australia, North America, South America and South Asia. SriLankan’s consistent performance over the entire first half of 2017 resulted in it being ranked in the top ten of these airlines for four of the last six months, with on-time ratings of 81.52% in January, 85.88% in February, 83.67% in March, 85.21% in April, and 85.36% in May. The high on-time performance is particularly impressive when taking into account the congestion and stresses that arose during the runway re-surfacing at Colombo’s Katunayake airport, which is SriLankan’s home base, during January to April 2017. SriLankan’s Ground Handling division, which has a policy of never compromising on the safety, security and global award-winning service levels to its passengers, is the sole provider of services in Colombo. Its performance has led to consistently favourable comments from its airline customers as well as passengers. SriLankan GH handled approximately 9.5 million passengers on over 57,000 flights of all airlines at BIA during the financial year 2016/17. SriLankan’s efforts are on-time performance are choreagraphed by a Punctuality Improvement Committee that oversees the performance of its airport passenger service staff, cargo handlers, pilots, aircraft maintenance personnel, flight despatchers, security staff and many others. It is extremely challenging for any airline to achieve such high levels of punctuality. Many of the elements that effect performance are beyond its control such as weather, air traffic control issues, customs and immigration control formalities, bird strikes, airport congestion, etc. The airline industry defines a flight as being ‘on-time’ if it arrives or departs within 15 minutes of its scheduled time. Airports and airlines are rated for flights arriving and departing throughout their hub airports and global networks on this basis.
SriLankan won a host of awards for service in recent times, including ‘ World’s Leading Airline Operating to the Indian Ocean Region in 2016 ’ at the World Travel Awards; and ‘Best Full Service Airline in Central and South Asia’ for the second consecutive year at the Future Travel Experience Asia Awards 2016. Its route network presently covers 105 cities in 47 countries with a sophisticated all-Airbus fleet that has been modernized recently with the induction of brand new A320neo, A321neo and A330-300 aircraft. As a member of the oneworld global airline alliance, SriLankan connects its passengers to over 1,000 cities in 160 countries in the oneworld network.
